The 37-year-old rapper was indicted last week on 11 counts, including felony marijuana and paraphernalia possession and seven counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

The charges stem from an August raid by authorities investigating if he was neglecting 12 pit bulls at his Phoenix home. Some were dehydrated and appeared to be underfed. Three were found buried in his back yard.

Just three days after getting busted for a traffic violation DMX was arrested early Friday at his Phoenix-area home on suspicion of animal abuse and felony drug possession following a search of the house and, before that, a brief standoff with police when he attempted to shut himself up in his bedroom.

According to the Maricopa County sheriff’s office, a SWAT team executed a search warrant on DMX’s Cave Creek, Ariz., residence at about 3 a.m. in connection with a seven-month-old investigation into reports that he had a number of malnourished pit bulls on his property.

A judge has reinstated a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the family of slain rapper B.I.G. reversing an earlier decision to dismiss the case.

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper threw out the lawsuit March 21 after determining the family missed a state deadline for bringing a claim against the city and two former police officers. The lawsuit was originally filed in Los Angeles Court, then moved to federal court.

The family appealed, and the judge reversed her decision after finding federal claims in the case can proceed, according to court papers obtained Thursday.

Cooper gave the family 20 days to file a new lawsuit and drop the state claims.

The movement of Democratic superdelegates to presidential hopeful Barack Obama gained steam Friday with four new endorsements, including a union president and a congressman who switched his backing from rival Hillary Clinton. With the new endorsements, the superdelegate count is Clinton, 271.5 and Obama, 267.

Obama’s endorsements from superdelegates have picked up sharply since Tuesday, when he soundly defeated Clinton in North Carolina’s primary and held her to a narrow victory in Indiana. The momentum in his direction reflects a growing sense among Democratic leaders that it is inevitable Obama will lock up the nomination.

Obama also picked up the endorsement of the influential American Federation of Government Employees union on Friday.

Georgia Lottery Winner Found Murdered

A woman who won $5 million in the Georgia lottery a year ago was found stabbed to death in her home. Police have charged her former boyfriend with murder.

Laurens County Sheriff Bill Harrell said 42-year-old Doris Murray was killed Monday afternoon. Her alleged attacker, 51-year-old Derrick Lorenzo Stanley of East Dublin is being held in the county jail without bond.

Harrell said Stanley led police on a car chase through the cities of East Dublin and Dublin following a 911 call to Murray’s residence Monday. At one point during the chase, a deputy tried to shoot out Stanley’s tires, according to the sheriff’s office. He said members of Murray’s family called 911 saying they had seen Stanley leaving the victim’s home with blood on his face. Sheriff’s investigator Sgt. Stan Wright said he believed Murray and Stanley may have argued over a break-up.

Despite her lottery winnings in April 2007, Murray “lived by meager standards,” the sheriff said.

R. Kelly trial set to start

After six years of repeated delays, jury selection is set to begin Friday in the Grammy-winning R&B singer’s trial on child pornography charges, prompted by a videotape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a girl as young as 13.

Prosecutors, though, will have a unique challenge: The alleged victim, now 23, says it wasn’t her. And Kelly’s attorneys - including Ed Genson, who often represents the rich and famous - haven’t admitted it’s Kelly in the video.

The centerpiece of the trial is likely to be the video footage, which Judge Vincent Gaughan ruled may be shown in open court. Prosecutors claim the videotape was made sometime between Jan. 1, 1998 and Nov. 1 2000, and that the girl was born in September 1984.

Kelly has settled three lawsuits accusing him of having sex with underage girls, filed in 1997, 2001 and 2002. In the third suit, the woman claimed that she began having sex with Kelly when she was 16, and that he forced her to have an abortion.

R. Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
