Georgia Lottery Winner Found Murdered

A woman who won $5 million in the Georgia lottery a year ago was found stabbed to death in her home. Police have charged her former boyfriend with murder.
Laurens County Sheriff Bill Harrell said 42-year-old Doris Murray was killed Monday afternoon. Her alleged attacker, 51-year-old Derrick Lorenzo Stanley of East Dublin is being held in the county jail without bond.
Harrell said Stanley led police on a car chase through the cities of East Dublin and Dublin following a 911 call to Murray’s residence Monday. At one point during the chase, a deputy tried to shoot out Stanley’s tires, according to the sheriff’s office. He said members of Murray’s family called 911 saying they had seen Stanley leaving the victim’s home with blood on his face. Sheriff’s investigator Sgt. Stan Wright said he believed Murray and Stanley may have argued over a break-up.
Despite her lottery winnings in April 2007, Murray “lived by meager standards,” the sheriff said.
